Absolutely! I thought about it often, and thought since God gave different ones for different purposes and capacities, y did we all have to preach when only a few were any good at it? Why weren't we used according to our strengths? Yep, that and a lot of scriptures made me think.

by marriedtoajw infrom time to time i hear or read xjw's talk about scripture verses that they struggled to reconcile with whatever current watchtower teaching was on a given subject.
most christians see new light as a conjured up interpretation by the watchtower to revise or sweep away any prophetic pronouncement or misinterpretation that proves to be false, the generation changes to site one example.
one night some time ago when i let my jw wife know my true feelings regarding the watchtower's claim of authority, i sited eph 4: 11-14 "and he gave some as apostles, others as prophets, others as evangelists, others as pastors and teachers,to equip the holy ones for the work of ministry, for the building up the body of christ, until we all attain to the unity of faith and knowledge of the som of god, to mature manhood, to the extent of the full stature of christ, so that we may no longer be infants, tossed by waves ans swept along by every wind of teaching arising from human tickery, from their cunning in the interests of decietful scheming".

When did Theology Last add something to Human Knowledge?
by cofty into illustrate my question.... i am watching an episode of the australian tv program "q & a" on youtube.
the panel includes the brilliant laurence krauss, gay bishop gene robinson, the woefully ignorant and bigoted rev fred nile and a few others.. the early questions put gene robinson under the spotlight and to be fair he comes across as a loving, compassionate, intelligent and - in his own words - "fabulous" person.
by contrast the reverend nile is a caricature of everything that is dispicable and hateful about theism.. a self-righteous young man in the audience asks gene how he deals with the bible's condemnation of homosexuality.

Depends imo on the focus of the particular theism. For instance, before I found theism I was a liar and a thief with some anger management issues, and theism in the form of nt teachings has made me honest and calm. Theism can also encourage people to help others like various charities run by religious groups. I know non religious groups also have charities, but in that aspect, non-theists have only recently caught up with theists.
So really it's not a clear cut question with any clear cut answers. There are answers, but no "the" answer. Inarguably, theism has lagged far behind in scientific matters like your example of homosexuality being shown to be hardwired rather than a choice. But in other areas, religious stories may still serve a purpose, such as the stories of Jesus helping people. Even as just stories, they can convey good values.

Head coverings yet again in the latest KM
by life is to short inmy husband just gave me the latest km the novermber 2013 and it yet again has a question box on head coverings.. question box "should a female publisher wear a head covering if she is accompanied by a male pubisher at a doorstep bible study?".
it says "when a female publisher conducts a reagular, scheduled bible study and a male kingdom publisher is present, she should wear a head covering.
(1 cor 11: 3-10) the july 15 2002, issue of the watchtower page 27, explains: "this is a prearranged session of teaching where the one conducting the the study actually presides.

Eve made our periods painful
by rebel8 ini was just remembering this teaching--that a mythical woman ate a piece of fruit 1000s of years ago after a snake told her to, and that's the reason we have menstrual pain.. you see, the bible says eve was cursed for her sin with painful childbirth.
hence we can make up extrapolate that this includes menstruation, which is just part of childbearing.
then we can make up extrapolate that this applies to all females in the entire human race today, because according to a loving god we should all share in her sin as we all have vaginas too.. i remember crying in total agony while i was insulted comforted by having this scripture and explanation read aloud to me, and thinking how much this knowledge drew me closer to jehovah made me realize what a misogynistic wackadoodle cult this was.. thor causing thunder is more plausible than this.. if dubs take midol, does that mean they are scoring jehovah's lesson?.

I wondered how women would have kids in the new system, hearing that it would be painless and quick like animals. But human physiology just makes that impossible because the size the baby's head needs to be due to human brain size. The human baby is underdeveloped at birth compared to other mammals, eg think of horses whose babies can run an hour after birth and monkeys which can hang onto mum as soon as they're born. The human baby has a big head which is why mother hurts. Unless that were changed or women's hips n vaginas became bigger, the pain would remain. Some might argue that it might happen, which means women's vag and hip size shrank when eve sinned!

And the word 'channel': like organization, governing body and other jw terms, the word channel is never used in the bible...

must get housing on your own / from the locals.. circuit and district overseers have moved into many of these former missionary homes.. reasons: liability, cost savings, real estate to be sold or used for other purposes.. needless to say, many of these longtime servants are very unsettled.

Real estate being liquidated so rapidly is a sure sign of a prophet on the run. It happened with the Mormon fundamentalists when Warren Jeffs went on the lam and they built that huge isolated compound in the middle of nowhere. And the wt is building a compound in the middle of nowhere and fighting legal battles for pedos everywhere. It's every man for himself now.
